Position Summary

American Highway, the leading manufacturer and distributor of steel products used in concrete construction, is currently seeking an Estimator in the Midwest market. The Estimator will support and work with the sales team to review the specifications and take-off project plans. The Estimator shall have general understanding of construction processes related to concrete road and airport runway/taxiway construction. The candidate must be confident working with estimating teams on projects of varying size and complexities. Individual must be self-motivated, possess strong communication/interpersonal and analytical skills.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

Reviews bid documents to determine scope of work and required for projects. Ensures drawings, blueprints, specifications, and any data are accurate prior to cost estimating projects through communication and engineering. Calculates and prepares material and work item quantities (take offs) based on project requirements. Prepares material pricing, delivery expenses, timing of product requirement, and other potential cost elements that may impact the estimate.

¯ Provides technical assistance to sales employees regarding the cost analysis of specialized projects with custom products

¯ Ability to navigate specifications and plans for DOT, airport, and private concrete paving projects

¯ Ability to handle multiple assignments at once

¯ Ability to work under tight time constraints

¯ Knowledge of the project specifications and able to ID and keep jurisdiction differences separate

¯ Prepares accurate estimates budget costs for concrete pavement projects by studying plans and specifications

¯ Works closely and communicate your methodology with American Highway Sales Team and customer project managers/estimators.

¯ Monitors bid letting schedules and identify bidding opportunities.

¯ Willing to perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

¯Proven organizational and communication skills

¯ Ability to adopt the company selling system which includes the use of an ERP and CRM

¯ Excellent time management and organizational skills

¯ Strong analytical and math skills

¯ Good computer skills and experience with MS Office Suite products.

¯ Record of good attendance and punctuality

Education / Experience

¯ Knowledge and experience in Heavy/Highway Market, specifically the Chicago paving market would be helpful

¯ Knowledge and experience in concrete paving/flatwork and or heavy/highway construction
